D'accord Writer

Privacy Policy

Effective 14 September 2026

This policy describes how information is handled in D'accord Writer (the desktop app, referred to below as “the software”) and on the dw.sccck.app website, both provided by Shin Kimura (SCCCK). As with the licence agreement, it is written in plain language.

01

First things first: your manuscript is never sent anywhere

The contents of the screenplays you write in the software are never transmitted to me or to any third party. Your manuscript is stored only on your own computer, and so is the auto-save snapshot the software keeps for crash recovery.

02

When the software connects to the internet

The software goes online in exactly two situations.

  • Activating a licence and checking that it is still valid. Your licence key, the activation ID and your computer’s name are sent to the servers of Polar (Polar Software Inc.), the payment service. The computer name is what lets you see and deactivate your activated devices in Polar’s customer portal.
  • Checking whether a newer version has been released. The distribution server (assets.sccck.app) is queried with a URL that contains your current version, your operating system and your CPU architecture.

In both cases, as with any network request, the originating IP address is recorded by the receiving server. When you are offline, an activated licence stays activated and the software works as usual.

03

What is stored on your computer

The software keeps the following on your own machine, in the application’s local data folder. None of it leaves your computer except through the two connections described above.

  • Your licence key, the activation ID and the time of the last validity check
  • Application settings such as display preferences and window size
  • The auto-save snapshot used for crash recovery (kept separately from the .dacproj file you save yourself)

You can deactivate a registered device at any time from the device management section of the licence dialog, or from Polar’s customer portal.

04

Purchases and payment

Licences are sold and paid for through Polar Software Inc., acting as merchant of record. Your name, email address and payment details are collected by Polar and handled under Polar’s own privacy policy. I never receive or store payment details such as card numbers. I may refer to the email address used at checkout in order to reissue a licence key or answer a question about a purchase.

05

The website (dw.sccck.app)

The site uses the third-party services below. In each case your IP address and browser information reach that service as part of the request.

  • Google Analytics (GA4) — used to see which pages are read and how often. It sets cookies to record things like whether this is a first visit or a return one, and which page you arrived from. What I see is aggregate traffic; it does not let me identify you personally. No advertising features are enabled.

If you are visiting from the EU/EEA, the UK or Switzerland, no analytics cookie is set until you choose “Accept” in the consent banner. You are free to keep reading without accepting, and you can change your mind at any time with the button below. Elsewhere analytics is on by default, and you can still opt out with Google’s opt-out add-on or your browser’s cookie settings. Either way, nothing about reading this site or downloading the software changes. Note that this section is about the website only — the desktop app itself contains no analytics.

06

Contacting me

What you send through the contact form (your name, email address and message) is used only to reply to you and to act on the bug report or request. It is never used for marketing or passed to third parties.

07

Disclosure to third parties

Beyond the services named above (Polar, Google and the software’s distribution server), no information is disclosed to third parties — except where disclosure is required by law.

08

How long information is kept

Licence information is retained by Polar and in my own records for as long as the licence is valid and for as long as accounting and tax rules require. Correspondence is kept after the exchange is finished only for as long as it is useful in case the same problem recurs. Traffic data collected by Google Analytics is deleted automatically once the retention period configured in Google Analytics has elapsed.

09

Your rights

If you would like to see, correct or delete information I hold about you, get in touch through the contact form and I will act on it once I have confirmed your identity. Information held by Polar can also be reviewed in Polar’s customer portal.

10

Changes to this policy

This policy may change — for instance when the software gains a feature that changes how it handles data. When it does, the change will be announced with the new version of the software and on dw.sccck.app.
